Gemini Marine Charters : Skippers News

Well here goes with some splurge about what's been happening!

28/04/2008....

For the past 14 months Explorer has been involved in survey work via Hull University and Amec carrying out work off Aberdeen. This involves steaming in a grid pattern and observing bird and mammal life encountered.

She also carries a hydrophone system and this runs for the duration of the surveys. All data is then downloaded and scrutinized ashore. This work is projected to carry on until 2009 with additional days being carried out in the summer months.

27th June ( The Offshore Powerboat Race Day for the Moray Firth)

I took it upon myself to carry out a monitoring station by way of positioning Gemini Endeavour some 2.8 miles off Burghead giving a point for the race boats to turn on and head East. This in effect kept them out of the coastal area of the SAC. The participants were happy to comply with my requests.

Even though this race had been intimated to various organisations and departments a year ago no plan for the start and other important points had been considered whilst the race was going through the Moray Firth area and no information was given to the race committee to act on until the very last minute.

We carried out a sweep of the route from Burghead to Sandend 2 Hrs after the race and many rafts of feeding birds and two feeding Minke whales were spotted off Lossie and Off Logie point.
